Therapeutic Guidance
The body is living art. Your movement through time and space is art. A painter has brushes. You have your body.

Somatic Experiencing® Sessions
Somatic Experiencing® is a body-oriented therapeutic model that helps resolve trauma and other stress disorders. This approach gently explores your nervous system patterns to complete survival responses. As we do this, we cultivate a greater capacity to regulate, connect to our authentic expression, and remember how to navigate the world from the inside out.

In an SE session, I will guide you to navigate your inner-world through the felt senses at the pace of your unique nervous system. We will practice listening to what is true for your body in the present moment, allowing space for stress patterns to complete, creative/personal blocks to resolve, rooted sense of safety to be restored, and inner wisdom to be integrated.
All sessions are currently held virtually through google meet or zoom.

FAQs
Do you offer in-person sessions?
Not officially at this time. Once a studio space is established, there will be sessions and workshops available in-person. Until then, if you are local to Asheville, email anna@mybodyof.art directly to discuss a potential meet up spot.
What is Trauma?
Trauma is not in the event itself: it’s not ‘what happened.’ Trauma is defined by the lingering psychosomatic response to overwhelming events (anything that was too much, too fast, too soon).
How is SE® different from talk therapy?
Your body’s voice is more important than words in SE®. If your head is shaking “no” while your story is saying “yes,” this would be a point of interest in an SE® session. As your body presents spontaneous physical gestures, we would explore them discovering incomplete fight, flight, freeze responses and your body’s relationship to boundaries, beliefs, perspectives, stories, etc.
How might SE® help me?
Trauma is an inevitable experience of life. This approach supports you in moving through stuck patterns of flight, fight, freeze to release fixed physiological states allowing for greater resilience and ease in life. Taking the time to digest stress and complete survival patterns allows your system to recalibrate to its inherent optimal self-healing state. As we honor our body’s process, the body naturally discovers new postures of ease, you tap into your authenticity and intuition, you integrate wisdom from the experiences you’ve traversed.
What is happening in an SE® Session?
The Somatic Experiencing® approach facilitates the completion of self- protective motor responses and the release of thwarted survival energy bound in the body, thus addressing the root cause of trauma symptoms. This is approached by gently guiding clients to develop increasing tolerance for difficult bodily sensations and suppressed emotions and working to complete defensive responses previously thwarted from bringing resolution to the nervous system and, therefore, to the individual.
“Trauma is not what happens to us, but what we hold inside in the absence of an empathetic witness.”
— Peter Levine, PhD
